Summary
  • BSc (Hons) Watersports Technology - The course aims to compliment your existing practical experience of various watersports craft with the technical theory associated with their various modus-operandi. You will learn to develop your design skills and manufacturing and business knowledge so that on completion of the degree you will be in a strong position to take a design brief, develop a concept, build a prototype, choose appropriate manufacturing methods and bring the finished artefact to market.
  • Duration: 3 years
  • Entry requirements: 12th Class (10 plus 2) with good grades for 1st year entry. Good grades at either Diploma or Advanced diploma / HND in a related subject for 2 or 3 year entry. Advanced standing - Candidates with appropriate certificated prior learning (or where they can demonstrate that they have achieved all the learning outcomes of an earlier stage/level) may be considered for advanced standing and admitted directly onto an appropriate stage or level of the course. Non Standard Entry - Students without one of the qualifications indicated on the entry profile may be considered on the basis of previously achieved certificated learning, experiential learning and/or work-related experience.

Programme
If you are interested in watersports and design technology and want to design and build the next generation of sailing dinghies and motor watersports craft up to 6 metres in length, this course could be just for you. The BSc (Hons) Watersports Technology degree is delivered by highly qualified staff, with strong backgrounds in yacht and powercraft design, product design, marine manufacturing techniques and entrepreneurship. All staff have close links with their respective industry and are contributing to its success. With this experience and current knowledge on tap, you will emerge from the course with the relevant design, manufacturing and business skills to make a useful contribution in your own chosen field of watersports equipment design, manufacturing or marketing.
Career OpportunitiesGraduates of the course would be expected to gain employment in the design, development, manufacturing and marketing of sectors of the watersports craft industry. Some graduates from our existing Yacht Engineering courses have made the transition to this sector and have been successfully employed in dinghy design. Others are running businesses building either bespoke high performance craft or mass manufacturing dinghy ranges for popular brands. We anticipate that graduates from this course will follow similar routes across the range of watersports craft.
