MSc International Maritime Studies (Full or Part Time)
- Ship and Shipping Management Pathway - This pathway addresses the complex factors which are involved in the overall management of a shipping operation. You'll reflect the latest thinking in the areas of safety management techniques, and explore the impact international leglislation has upon management strategies within the industry.
- Shipping Ports and Environment Pathway - Shipping and port operations are an important industrial sector for all coastal nations. This course address industry demands for environmentally aware maritime professionals.You'll focus on the environmental management of marine industries, and explore issues concerned with the sustainable management of the world's oceans, seaways, ports and harbours. Through exercises in role play and comprehensive case studies, you'll gain the practical skills as well as the theoretical knowledge sought by employers. This will further boost your position within the global shipping industry.
- Shipping and Logistics Pathway - This is designed to enable you to have a detailed knowledge and understanding of both the operations and strategies of shipping as a single transport mode within the context of international multimodal logistics.
- Shipping and Commercial Law Pathway - The pathway aims to demonstrate the dynamics and theories of maritime business law including for example inter alia elements of maritime commerce; company law; contract and commercial law; the role of insurance in maritime commerce; corporate accountability and the criminalisation of the Master. The intention is also to enhance learning through stimulating student engagement by application to currently contentious and evolving areas. Negotiation and dispute resolution therefore represent important areas of study in relation to these conflict scenarios.
- Marine Spatial Planning Pathway - This pathway is designed to give you a detailed knowledge and understanding of the rationale, development and implementation of Marine Spatial Planning. It also aims to enable you to analyse and evaluate the conflicting pressures associated with marine resource development and protection, and to provide solutions in light of sustainable development.
- Duration: Full time 1 year and Part time 2 years (Part time for EU Citizens only)
- Entry requirements: Honours degree (or equivalent) in any one of the following: Maritime-related Studies; Environmental Science; Engineering; Management; Transport; Economics; Geography; Business or Law. Please note that this list is not exclusive. Alternatively, a Higher National Diploma (Merit or Distinction award) or ordinary degree in a maritime-related subject combined with an appropriate track record of achievement in a professional context such as at a senior managerial level may be sufficient. In the case of professional mariners, the entry requirements are as follows:
- Deck Officer: Master's (Unlimited) Certificate + at least two years' experience as Chief Officer.
- Ship Engineer: Chief Engineer (Class 1) Certificate + at least two years' as Chief Engineer.
- Fees: For students ordinarily residing in the UK and European Union £3,375. For international students outside of the European Union £9,150. For part-time students ordinarily residing in a member state of the European Union, the fees for students commencing in September 2011 are: £1700 for year 1 and £1700 for year 2. For each year, fees can be paid in 2 instalments, with the second instalment due approximately 4 months after the start of the academic year. Students who pay the full course fee (for the year) before the end of induction week will be given a 5% discount.
BSc (Hons) Maritime Business (Full Time)
- This course will prepare you for a career in the marine service sector of the international shipping industry. By choosing this course, you'll not only benefit from professional accreditation by the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, you'll be taught by experienced staff in a perfect location.
- Duration: Either 3 or 4 years with work placement.
- Entry requirements: 12th Class (10 plus 2) with good grades for 1st year entry. Good grades at either Diploma or Advanced diploma / HND in a related subject for 2 or 3 year entry.

- This course (formerly BSc (Hons) Shipping Operations) is ideal if you who wish to follow a career in ship or port operations and management, or in the related fields of logistics, freight forwarding, port agency, cargo handling or marine supplies. There is a demand for graduates with knowledge and operational skills to manage the world’s ships and ports.

BEng (Hons) Yacht and Powercraft Design (Full Time)
- The course seeks to complement your existing practical sailing and boatcraft knowledge, and combines theory and practice in an ideal location. Southampton Solent University is close to the thriving Port of Southampton and its successful business community, and is therefore a superb place for extra practical experience. You'll gain access to our industry-standard facilities in the City Centre and Warsash Maritime Academy, where you can develop your design skills using computer aided design (CAD) and participate in our practical workshops.

BEng (Hons) Yacht Production and Surveying (Full Time)
- This technology degree aims to produce graduates with the project management, numerical and practical skills of a professional Marine Technologist working in the yacht industry. You undertake a programme of lectures and tutorials. Supporting workshops include practical exercises on manufacture of composites, material testing, stability and marine engine investigations. These are carried out using the University’s towing and stability tanks, material testing laboratories and FRP workshops.

BSc (Hons) Watersports Technology
- BSc (Hons) Watersports Technology - The course aims to compliment your existing practical experience of various watersports craft with the technical theory associated with their various modus-operandi. You will learn to develop your design skills and manufacturing and business knowledge so that on completion of the degree you will be in a strong position to take a design brief, develop a concept, build a prototype, choose appropriate manufacturing methods and bring the finished artefact to market.
- Duration: 3 years
- Entry requirements: 12th Class (10 plus 2) with good grades for 1st year entry. Good grades at either Diploma or Advanced diploma / HND in a related subject for 2 or 3 year entry. Advanced standing - Candidates with appropriate certificated prior learning (or where they can demonstrate that they have achieved all the learning outcomes of an earlier stage/level) may be considered for advanced standing and admitted directly onto an appropriate stage or level of the course. Non Standard Entry - Students without one of the qualifications indicated on the entry profile may be considered on the basis of previously achieved certificated learning, experiential learning and/or work-related experience.

Foundation Year (Full Time)
- Perhaps you do not have the traditional entry qualifications, or are an existing student wanting to transfer to a different course of study. Providing that you can show the intellectual potential, personal commitment and attitude to work needed to succeed in higher education, this scheme offers you a way to obtain a degree.This is a superb way to update and broaden your knowledge base in preparation for a degree. The Foundation Level 3 forms an integral part of an extended degree course. You will be expected to register for a specific named degree, though there may be some flexibility to transfer to a different course. On successful completion of the programme you will progress to the degree of your choice.
